It is already clear: "Men in the City 2" is one of the summer hits of 2011. We met its director Simon Verhoeven with Stars Florian David Fitz, and Justus von Dohnányi.
Good news, Mr. Verhoeven: So far, there seems to be no single critic saying "men's hearts 2" was really bad.
Verhoeven: No, we have even proper hymns - what even surprises me a little. I think it is because the critics in the first part of work were on you and now they also recognize the craft. By all parties involved, the actors - just everybody. I think that the film remarks is that many very, very good people have worked very hard on it.
"Best German Film 2009" meets "German Film Award 2010 & 2011". "in front of me sits almost the dream team of German Cinema.
Fitz: (laughs) Too much of glory!
Verhoeven: nothing to add
But how 2012 can top it now?
Fitz: It must not even be always topped. If you wanted to top everything, you would get a heart attack indeed. I think we are all quite happy to make beautiful films. And when people look at this, it's more than you may expect.
Verhoeven: We must not forget that you also make films that you think are great and very interesting - but not have the potential to be a Blockbuster. The "Men in the city" is quite a special thing and I do not think it is easy to repeat that again.
von Dohnányi: Absolutely true: But it's only great times, have found a job that's fun. And if it happens that you do something every couple of years that still brings recognition and work well, it's great. We arenot tortured to work.

Especially for you, you spent a decade mimic rather bulky with uncomfortable roles - but the levees break with comedies. Should we not sigh as deep as an actor?
von Dohnányi: Well, there are actually people in the film, not all have too much imagination. Since it is being type-cast in the first place. If you want to breakthrough you need your own time - or occasions. And then in 2009 I had the opportunity to participate in such a beautiful comedy ...
2010 was the season of Florian David Fitz: Bambi, Bavarian Film Awards, German Film Award. And now after L.A.?
Fitz: No, no - for God's sake. I am happy to be here. I studied in America and like the country like crazy. But I think it's a shame that we all always squint to LA - so it makes itself a bit small. You can also make a good film here. This is my language, this is my country.
Verhoeven: And indeed you can see what we have for outstanding actor. Let's take Justus or Flo: They can play on Hollywood-level of course, there's no question. I wish we just had in Germany a similar script of project quality.
Fitz: But you had to get more people to the cinema, as in other countries. Then we had a lot more options and more money - and could still make better films.
Verhoeven: But of depth, talent and craft in Germany the best actors in the world are at home - and I mean that seriously.
Awards for "Men in the City," "Men in the City 2" a huge success - the acceleration has not made the director dizzy?
Verhoeven: I have air for a long time. I haven't made any movie in six years. I have burst all projects - in the financing or even in the script phase. And then of course you have a lot of pent-up energy. Now I know it is very appreciated and can enjoy it, no matter what happens to make a hit with audiences and to have the same positive response from critics. But I know it can also run very differently.
The pressure of expectation on upcoming projects is growing naturally.
Verhoeven: Not from my side
But from the studios
Verhoeven: The studios want, of course, that I have to do Men in the city. This is a purely economic consideration - would wish that I now make Men in the City 3 to 12. But I can only do what interests me - and with "Men in the City," that's it for me now.
So no "Men in the City 3- even warm?"
Verhoeven: Not for me. The story is all told about - and we should leave the party when it's at its finest. That way, says Bruce Berger also in the first film.
